The evaluation of the students would be comprehensive and continuous, based on a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) evaluation system. The system relies on a performance evaluation wherein students would be awarded a letter grade based on their performance in a course during the semester. These letter grades will carry a numeric equivalent termed as grade point. The average of the grade points earned by a student over the entire course will be termed as CGPA. The system is explained in detail in the subsequent paragraphs.
A grade will be awarded to a student based on his/her performance over the semester in a particular course of study undertaken. The grades are denoted by the letters A+, A, B, C, D, E, F and I, each of which not only indicates a qualitative assessment of the student's performance but also carries a quantitative (numeric) equivalent called the grade point as given below:
A student will be deemed to have passed in a subject of study if he/she gets any grade in the range of A+ to E.
A candidate registered for the university examination but fails to appear or fails to score the minimum required 50% marks in the University examination will get a Grade 'F', indicating failure or grade of incompletion.
A subject successfully completed cannot be repeated for improving the grade. Final evaluation of each subject will be carried out on a 10 - point grading system corresponding to the marks obtained in that subject. Each subject letter grade is converted into a specific grade value associated with the letter grade as given below:
|MARKS RANGE||GRADING||GRADE VALUE|
|85% and Above||A+||10|
|75% - 84%||A||09|
|65% - 74%||B||08|
|60% - 64%||C||07|
|55% - 59%||D||06|
|50% - 54%||E||05|
|Less than 50%||F||00|
The grade points are weighted in accordance with the number of credits assigned to a subject and it is a product of credit and grade value. The Grade Point Average (GPA) is the weighted average of grade points awarded to a candidate.
GPA = Total grade points of a particular semester / Total number of credits of the semester
GPA for each semester will be calculated for those candidates who have passed all the subjects of that particular semester of the course.
The weighted average of GPA's of all semesters that the student has completed at any point of time is the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at that point of time.
CGPA up to any semester will be calculated only for those students who have passed all the subjects up to that semester.
CGPA = Σ (GPA of each semester * Corresponding number of credits)
Sum of the entire course credits
Transfer of grades from PGDB of IMA to MBA (Banking & Finance) in case of lateral entry students:
Any student who has successfully completed the PGDB from IMA will be given a lateral entry to the third semester of MBA (Banking & Finance). He/she will be required to complete the courses online in a maximum of 30 months time to be eligible for the award of MBA (Banking &Finance) degree.
The cumulative grades obtained in PGDB will be added to the grades obtained in the MBA Programme to arrive at the weighted average CGPA.
A student would have to pass in each course to acquire the credits for that particular course. He/she should complete the internal and semester end exam evaluations module wise. Any student who has completed successfully all the five semesters in the stipulated time acquiring a minimum of CGPA of 5 will be eligible to receive the MBA (Banking & Finance) degree from Manipal University.
